Dexter Corson Lewis, Jr., 74, of Trenton, Florida, went home to be with our Lord on March 4, 2016. He was surrounded by his family at St. Anthony’s at de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis, Missouri and spent his last days sharing memories and watching the birds and squirrels outside his window.
Dexter was born on December 24, 1941 in Lockport, New York to Charlotte (Armstrong) Lewis and Dexter Corson Lewis, Sr.
On December 22, 1962 Dexter and Karen Christine King were united in marriage in Fitchburg, MA. They were blessed with three children and made their home in Melrose, MA. In 1979 the family moved to Farmington, New Mexico.
In 2001 Dexter retired as the Assistant Fire Marshal of the Farmington Fire Department after 17-1/2 years of dedicated service to the Department and the citizens of Farmington. Dexter was also a Volunteer Firefighter and Chief of the San Juan County (NM) Fire Department District 2 (Flora Vista).
In 2005 Dexter and Karen moved to Trenton, Florida where they enjoyed gardening, cooking, home improvement projects, and reading. Although “retired”, Dexter continued to unselfishly serve his fellow citizens as the On-Call Fire Investigator with Gilchrist County (FL) Fire-Rescue Department until 2015.
Dexter proudly served in the United States Navy until 1964 as a Fire Control Technician (FTG), Petty Officer Second Class (E-5) aboard the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. (DD-850). He was Honorably Discharged in 1966.
