Dolores A. Schmidt

Schmidt, Dolores A. (nee: Schaeffer) aka Dolores Saliba, of Lake Saint Louis, MO, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the age of 83. Loving wife of the late Charles Schmidt; beloved daughter of the late Louis and Flora Schaeffer; devoted mother of Barbara (the late David) Willingham, Rita (Don) Willingham, and Jan Saliba; cherished grandmother of Christopher, Travis, and Trevor Willingham; dear sister of Carol Lee, Steve Schaeffer, and Joseph Schaeffer. She is preceded in death by her first husband Carlyle Saliba, her grandchildren Amy Willingham, Brett Willingham and Angi Huckaba (nee: Willingham), her siblings Nicholas Schaeffer and Louis Schaeffer.

Dolores was born in St. Louis, MO, during the great depression to Louis and Flora Schaeffer. She was the eldest of four brothers and one sister. Dolores grew up a country girl but longed to be in the city. She met Carlyle Saliba while applying for one of her first jobs in the city. They married in 1954, raised three daughters together and settled in St. Louis County (Bridgeton). She enjoyed life with Carl until his passing in September 1989. With much more life to live and love to give, she was married a second time to Charles Schmidt in October 1990 until his passing in 2009. Over the last few years, Dolores regularly attended a Saturday supper club where she met her boyfriend “Sam”. She had numerous hobbies and talents which included traveling, dancing, listening to music, quilting, doll making and painting. She had a “green thumb” and could make anything grow and thrive. Her daughters would often bring plants to her so she could care for them in her “plant hospital”. Dolores loved sunflowers and daisies. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Dolores was a beautiful woman and the world was a brighter place with her in it.
Memorials may be made to the Crisis Nursery of St. Charles or Quilts of Valor Eastern Missouri Chapter.
