Donald Edwin Gruner of St. Charles, MO passed away Friday, August 31, 2018, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Peters, MO at the age of 84. He is preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Vera Gruner (nee Benus). Loving husband of the late Jane V. Gruner (nee Gaertner), beloved father of Debbie Jackson and Janice Powelson and father-in-law of Todd Powelson and Mike Jackson.
Loving grandfather of Amanda Imboden (Brandon Mickey), Laura Lott (Charles Lott, Jr), Erin, Chase and Braden Powelson, Kyle Jackson (Danielle Jackson) and great-grandfather of Charles III, Leah and Natalyn. Beloved brother-in-law of Chuck and Claire McSpadden, dear uncle of Craig McSpadden (Linda Chavez) and Ed McSpadden (Kristi McSpadden) and great-uncle of Katelyn and Edward McSpadden.
Don graduated from Washington University in 1957 and upon graduation, was commissioned into the US Army and began working as a stress engineer at Universal Match. He went on to serve as First Lieutenant Artillery in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves and in 1962 began working as mechanical engineer at ACF Industries in St. Charles, MO. After retiring from ACF in 1986, he worked at Gundaker Realtors in St. Charles, MO until 2002.
For over 55 years, Don was a member of the Overland Masonic Lodge, advancing through the Scottish Rite and into the Moolah Shrine. He was a long-standing member of the Director’s Staff and Guides units, as well as TCAA.
