Donald H Moorhouse, of Saint Peters, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the age of 90. Beloved husband of 67 years to Mary Ann Moorhouse; cherished son of the late Harry and Edna Moorhouse; devoted father of Darlene (Kevin) Vukmir, Michael (Peggy) Moorhouse, Danny Moorhouse, Lisa Moorhouse and the late Patti Moorhouse; loving grandfather of Derek (Deanna) Sissom, Kristine Vukmir and Matthew Vukmir; treasured great-grandfather of Jonathan Carey; dear brother of Carole Rogers.
Donald, affectionately known as “Coach” began his journey in hockey in 1969. His coaching career took off as he embarked on a mission to shape young athletes in Chicago. His dedication to the sport led him to St. Louis in 1977, where he continued his coaching journey with the Mo Delta Hockey Club, later merging with the Creve Coeur Hockey program. A true visionary, Donald co-founded the St. Louis AAA Blues program alongside Larry Sandersen and Rick Schooley. Under his guidance, countless players learned not only the intricacies of hockey but also the values of respect, loyalty, and integrity.
In 2009, Donald's contributions to the hockey community were honored with his induction into the St. Louis Amateur Hockey Hall of Fame. His name became synonymous with excellence, his legacy enduring through the lives of the countless individuals he mentored and inspired.
Beyond the rink, Donald found joy in golfing, where his passion for the sport matched his love for hockey. An avid golfer, he shared his expertise at numerous golf courses throughout the city, leaving an indelible mark wherever he went. He also cherished his trips to Canada for fishing adventures, relishing in the tranquility of nature.
With over 50 years dedicated to coaching youth hockey, Donald amassed an impressive record of over 2500 wins and countless tournament victories across the United States and Canada. His impact transcended the scoreboard, as he instilled in his players the values of perseverance, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Donald Moorhouse will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of the players he coached, the colleagues he mentored, and the community he enriched. May his passion for the game and his unwavering commitment to excellence continue to inspire generations to come.
