Doris Bohannon Stamps

After nearly 99 years on this earth, Doris went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arvil Stamps; her son, Dale Stamps; her parents, Jeff and Alice (nee Pritchard) Bohannon; her brother, Aubrey (Jewel) Bohannon; her sister, Mary (Robert) Baker (nee Bohannon); and her grandson, Mark Stamps.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Anita (Kirk) Boyenga; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Doris was born Ina Doris Bohannon on a farm in rural Putnam County, Tennessee.  The family had little to live on during the Great Depression, except their hard scrabble farm and government tobacco subsidies.  She never completed high school, but she learned a great deal about life from the farm and from the Bible.

Doris married Arvil Stamps, also from Putnam County, after they had both moved to Dayton, Ohio to seek employment.  They raised two children on Arvil’s income as an autoworker.  They enjoyed their neighbors, their family members who had also moved north, and their church.

As a woman of faith, Doris loved her church, and she was very involved with her church.  She enjoyed volunteering, attending Sunday School, and praying for those on the prayer chain.  She made many good friends and treasured spending time with them.

Later in her retirement years, Doris liked to travel with her husband.  They traveled across the country and to Hawaii.  She also enjoyed the outdoors and tending to her vegetable and rose gardens.  As a daughter of the Depression she put everything to good use and canned as many vegetables as possible.

Doris loved her family and cherished the memories they made over the years.  Whether she traveled to visit or enjoyed having them at her home, it was always a delight to be with her family.  She also loved quilting and gifting what she made to her family.

Doris was dearly loved, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Memorial contributions in Doris’s name may be made to Samaritan's Purse.
