Dorothy Louise Harrell

Dorothy Louise Harrell (nee Rupp), of Wentzville, MO, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at the age of 80. Loving wife of John F. Harrell; beloved daughter of the late Louis Albert and Dorothy Rupp; devoted mother of Anissa (Gary) Umfleet; cherished grandmother of Amanda (Jamie) McGinnis, Anna (Nicholas Crowe) Harrell, and Andrew Umfleet; treasured great-grandmother of Austin Lynch; dear sister of Butch (Pauline) Rupp; dear niece, loving cousin, friend and teacher of many. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie L. Harrell; and son, Michael S. Harrell. Dorothy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy was born in St. Louis, MO in 1938. She attended William Woods University, where she discovered her true passion for teaching. She went on to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Central Methodist College.
Dorothy found a teaching position in the Hazelwood School District, where she continued teaching for 33 years. In 1959, she met the love of her life, John Harrell, and they were married that October 24th. In 1960, they had the first of their three children, Laurie LuAnn, followed by Michael Shawn in 1962, and Anissa Louise in 1969. Dorothy always loved children and she and John were blessed with four grandchildren, beginning in 1983 with Amanda Louise, followed by Anna Elyse in 1990, Austin Tyler in 1999, and Andrew Glen in 2000.
Both Dorothy and John enjoyed traveling and exploring the world. Over the years, they were fortunate enough to visit several countries in Europe, as well as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and several other places. Their travels often took them to their lake house during the weekends where they have made many cherished memories with their family.
Dorothy will be greatly missed but not forgotten by the many hearts she touched.
