Dorothy Marie Stoverink (nee Olson) Passed from this life on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 2:15 in the afternoon surrounded by her loving family. Preceded in death by her adored late husband, Herman F. Stoverink., with whom she spent 54 wonderful years. She is survived by her son and daughter, Jerry Stoverink ( Judy) of Leasberg, MO and Jayne Glidewell (David) of St. Charles, MO. Loving grandmother of Dan Glidewell (Darcy) , Angela Carder, Mandy Lersch (Keenan), and Scott Stoverink. . Much loved and adoring Granny to Emily Lersch, Nichole Carder, Elizabeth Lersch, Jack Carder, Natalie Glidewell and Allison Glidewell and the late Nathaniel Glidewell. Born on August 4, 1921, Dorothy was the middle child of six children born to Edna Aulbach Olson and William D.Olson. Born and raised in Maplewood, MO, they were a close and loving family, ever enjoying the company of one another, be it holidays, barbeques, trips or just being together. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings, missing each one until the time of her death. Dorothy had three brothers, Bill, Bob and Jack Olson and two sisters, Marge Pipkin and Betty Yokubat. She leaves behind her two cherished sisters-in-law, Rose Olson and Alice Olson, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Though Dorothy spent most of her adult life in various degrees of physical pain, she loved life and all of the many joys God afforded her. She thanked Him daily for her rich and blessed life. Humor was her trademark. When asked how she was doing, her usual reply was , “Well, if I was any better, I couldn’t stand it!” She usually found the best in everyone she met and they, most often, came away with something special about her that would stay with them forever. She never knew a stranger. Any child who ever had the good fortune to cross her path or live in her neighborhood was sure to carry with them her positive views of life and what God expects of us. Young adults have said they never forgot her command to “do a good deed for someone everyday” and “ Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you”. Dorothy and Herm raised their children in Brentwood, where she was involved in the special activities of their life, first serving as a Cub Scout leader, later a Brownie leader, as well as PTA and mentor to her children’s friends. She laid a firm foundation on which her children could build their lives. In 1972 she and Herm retired to their beloved farm in Lonedell,MO , where they enjoyed a new life in the country. They continued to travel the US with their Holiday Rambler Trailer, while enjoying their many close friends along the way. With Herm’s final illness, in 1993, he saw that they relocated to a new home in St. Charles, in order for Dorothy to be settled and near their daughter and her family. Of course, Dorothy quickly laid down some roots for them; getting to know, what turned out to be, her wonderful and supportive group of neighbors, her mail carrier, the grocer, a good florist, her house helper and so many others. You know who you are. She continued to live there on her own until a few years ago. Since that time has remained in her home with the loving help and support of her special angels- Donna, Cathy, Marla, Becky, Phyllis, Wanda, Sharron, Shelly, and Tracey. They brought so much joy to Dorothy’s final days. The family would like to give special thanks also, to Drs. Paul Altsheler and Poonam Jain for the exceptional care they gave her over the years; the staff of DePaul Health Center for the loving and tender care given to Dorothy and family during her last five days of life. Everlasting love and gratitude to each of you. If you wish, expressions of sympathy are preferred to the Arthritis Foundation, Smile Train or Toys for Tots. In accordance to her final wishes, a private family service was held, her body cremated and a party for her friends and family to be held in the near future. So, in place of the usual visitation process, please come and share your condolences with us at a great fun party. If you would like to be part of our celebration honoring her life and her 89th birthday, please contact Mandy (636-916-0740) or Jayne(636-946-3385) for date, time, and directions to the “Celebrate Dorothy” party to be held at the home of Dan and Darcy Glidewell.
