Donald A. Tyree, professor emeritus and former chairman of the Finance Department of St. Louis University, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, at St. Joseph’s Health Center, St. Charles. Dr. Tyree was a Wienhiemer graduate fellow in 1955-1956, a Texas Savings and Loan fellow in 1956-1959, and a Texas Consumer Finance Association fellow in 1958-1959. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from Washington University in 1953 and 1956 respectively. In 1959 Dr. Tyree received a doctorate in finance from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas. Dr. Tyree had been listed in Who’s Who in America since 1961. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Dr. Tyree joined the Business School of St. Louis University in 1959 and served as the first chairman of the Department of Finance when it was established in 1967. He served as Associate Dean of the school in 1973 and as chairman of the Faculty Senate Compensation Committee from 1977 to 1991. Dr. Tyree was a member of the St. Louis County Insurance Commission from 1962-1968 and he was an insurance consultant for many school districts in the St. Louis area. Dr. Tyree was the author of several books and articles in the field of finance. Among the survivors are his wife Sherry J. Tyree; two sons, Wesley G. Tyree (Cindy) and Thomas Tyree, M.D. (Christy); four grandchildren (Tamara Tyree Favazza (Patrick); Lauren Tyree; Brittany Tyree and Lindsay Tyree and two great-grandchildren (Ava Favazza and Giada Favazza). Dr. Tyree is preceded in death by his son, Paul H. Tyree and his brother, Charles Tyree.
