Dr. John Arthur “Jack” Bornmann, Jr.

Dr. John Arthur 'Jack' Bornmann, Jr., born on May 1, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died October 20, 2014.
He attended public schools in Charleston, West Virginia, graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology and received a PhD in Chemistry from Indiana University. He did advance studies at the Technische Hochschule of Stuttgart, Germany.
Dr. Bornmann was a professor of chemistry and physics at universities and colleges in Illinois and Missouri. He also taught music and handball on occasions. He conducted summer research at Oak Ridge National Laboratories, the Lunar Receiving Laboratory at the Manned Spacecraft Center, Argonne National Laboratories and McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories. He was the owner and operator of DAS Company which analyzed street drugs for law enforcement agencies in St. Charles County. In later years, he took special interest in singing with the church choir, teaching Sunday Bible Class for Mentally Handicapped Adults, and doing research on the genealogy of all Bornmann family trees.
A celebration of his life will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Lee Bornmann (nee: Reel) of St. Charles, MO, two daughters, Patricia Lee (Gary Phillis) Bornmann, PhD, of Boulder, CO and Carol Ann (Robert) Lietz of Weldon Spring, MO, two grandchildren Jason and Stacy Lietz, a brother Dr. Robert C. Bornmann of Reston, VA and sister Mary Ann Wollerton of Falls Church, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Arthur and Iona Ann Bornmann, sister Patricia Newberry, and five dogs: Brownie, Cyrus Cedric Montague Percival Hooligan Montmorency Barton Bornmann Jr., Schaefi, Heidi and DD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bridgeway Behavioral Health, where Jack was a loyal board member for 25 years, LSS Hospice, Our Savior Lutheran Church, or the donor's choice.
