Dywane Smalls of Saint Louis, MO, passed away at the age of 70 on Friday, May 14, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, David Smalls.
Dywane is survived by his wife, Mary Smalls; his daughter, Deidre (James LeBine) Smalls; his grandchildren, Maya and Carter LeBine; his mother, Ruby Elston; his siblings, Joann Dickerson, Arnold (Wanda) Elston, Roger (Barbara) Smalls, Dinah (Dale) Hainesworth, Brandon (Sarah) Smalls, Ronald (Janelle) Smalls, Robin Phipps, Sharon (Dennis) Briggs, Renee (Karl) Nelson; and his nephews, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends.
Dywane was a former member of Urban Youth Action and he was proud of the good work he did there to mentor and empower young people. He was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and was fascinated by computers and technology in general. He spent many years working as an Industrial and Manufacturing Engineer and retired from American Steel Foundaries in Granite City, Illinois. Above everything, Dywane loved spending time with his family – especially his daughter and grandchildren – and treasured the memories they made together over the years. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations in Dywane’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
