Earl Kennedy
April 20, 1934 — August 25, 2021
We mourn the death and celebrate the life of Earl J. Kennedy of St. Charles, MO. He passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at the age of 87, at home surrounded by his wife of 64 years and his family. He was the beloved husband of Genevieve “Genny” Ann (Stross) Kennedy, son of the late Calvin and Eleanor (Hoeckelmann) Kennedy; dad of Connie (Mike) Ebert, Earl Kennedy, Jr. (Rozanne), Karen Kennedy, and Kelly (Frank) Brune; grandpa of Derek (Andrea) Ebert, Kyle (Brandy) Ebert, Lindsay (Dwayne) Heitman, Colleen (Adam) Bender, Dylan Kennedy, Ben Brune, and the late Ciaran Brune; brother of Lorraine (Orville) Lind, Dorothy (Paul) Fischbach, and the late Sister Inez Kennedy, Eileen (Tony) Pohlman, and Ruth (Tom) Clark. Earl is also survived by six great-grandchildren, a great-grandchild on the way, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Earl was a devoted husband, adored father and grandpa, and was well-known for his kindness, integrity, unflappable nature and entrepreneurial spirit. A lifelong St. Charles resident, he began working at a very young age carrying newspapers and setting pins at Schulte’s on Main Street and later at St. Charles Lanes. He got a taste of the restaurant business working as a carhop at Stanley’s while a student at St. Charles High School, where he graduated in 1952. He and Genny operated an A&W Restaurant in Webster Groves for a few years and then returned to operate Stanley's changing the name to Earl’s Restaurant, which they owned until 1981. In 1974, he also opened and operated Kelly’s Tackle, a favorite spot for hunters and fishermen until its closing – his retirement – in 2002. In the midst of his business ventures, he found time to do the things he loved, including family celebrations, fishing, cooking, playing cards, singing in the choir, painting, gardening, and traveling. He loved nature and being outdoors, but most of all he enjoyed life with his wife and family. Memorial contributions may be made to Duchesne High School, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the American Diabetes Association. Baue Funeral Homes is currently following CDC recommendations regarding mask and social distancing policies.
