Eddyth “Eddy” Jean Smith (nee Rosenberg), born October 9, 1925 in Aikin, MN, died June 16, 2019 in St. Louis, MO. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Keene “A.K.” Smith, and parents, Edward and Olga Rosenberg. Surviving are her children, The Rev. Marc Smith (late Mary Lee) and Laurel Sirtak (Robert); grandson Robert Sirtak Jr. and great granddaughter Lexi; grandson Timothy Sirtak (Renee) and great grandchildren Lauren, Emily and Zachary; great granddaughter Caitlyn Catanzaro.
Eddy graduated from Wadena High School in Wadena, MN and the University of North Dakota with a BA in Secondary Education. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She married high school sweetheart A.K. in 1947 and shared an incredible 61-year adventure with him. In addition to raising her children, she taught high school history in Crookston, MN, Cody, WY and American Samoa. She was among the first in the nation to earn a Master’s in Special Education and subsequently founded and lead the department at Alton (IL) Mental Health Center. In her 30 years of retirement, she lived in Big Spring, TX directing the Altar Guild at St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church, North Fort Myers, FL where she honed her ceramics skills, Mountain Home, AR where she was active in the hospitality ministry of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and St. Charles, MO following the death of her husband and where she graciously supported those in need at Fair Winds River’s Edge Retirement Community.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for her on Thursday, June 20 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 318 S. Duchesne Dr., St. Charles, MO, with visitation at the church at 9 AM, followed by Mass at 10 AM and subsequent Committal at Baue Memorial Gardens in St. Charles.
