Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul of St. Barnabas or Masses. Obrecht, Edith Bethmann, of O'Fallon, Missouri, died on Monday, November 16, 2009, at the age of 92. Wife of the late Glennon Obrecht; Survived by seven children, Judy (Jerry) Sigmund, Dottie (Herb) Schulte, Glen (Kate) Obrecht, Betty (George) Isbell, David (Diane) Obrecht, Barbara (Marty) Kieffer, and Mary (Frank) Karll; 24 Grandchildren, 39 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. Edith was a self-taught fabric artist who made hundreds of wedding gowns, priest's vestments, clothing for the Precious Blood Sisters, school uniforms, draperies and slipcovers. She made clothing for men, women, and children, at times using a pattern and often without a pattern. In her later years she became a quilt maker. She was a member of St. Barnabas Parish since its founding and served as the first president of the Ladies Guild. She was a church quilter, member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Birthright, MO Extension Club, O'Fallon Historical Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Happy Neighbors. She drove for Meals on Wheels to age 82 and served as a volunteer at St. Joseph West Hospital.
