Edward M. Lewis

December 16, 1920 — September 28, 2016

Edward M. Lewis, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at the age of 95. Beloved husband of 55 years to the late Edna E. Lewis; cherished son of the late Thadius D. and Lillian Lewis; devoted father of Richard E. Lewis, the late infant daughter, Marilyn Lewis, and the late Ronald Lewis; loving grandfather of Tamara Lewis-Michel, Susan (Jamie) Howe, Ricky Lewis, Christine Lewis, and Greg Lewis; treasured great-grandfather of Kevin, Caleb, and Colby; dear great-great-grandfather of Kevin Jr. and A’Kylee; cherished brother-in-law of Margaret Von Lerichten, Florence (Harold) Albertson, and Margaret Frye.

Edward proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific, as a member of the 161st Airborne Engineer Battalion, which was connected to the 503rd Airborne Regimental Combat Team. He was known to everyone as “Poppa Lew,” and he never met a stranger. He was an accomplished saxophonist who played with the Tommy Dorsey Band. As a devoted man of faith, he was a lifetime member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Pine Lawn, and was a Sunday School Superintendent for many years. In his spare time, Poppa Lew enjoyed boating, fishing, barbecuing, playing pool, and spending time with his family and friends. He was dearly loved, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be made to Bethesda Lutheran, 4121 Begg Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63121.
