Eleanor “Ellie” Jean Chappell (nee Yates), 77 of St. Louis, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Ellie grew up in Baden, graduated and married, then lived several places before settling down to raise her family in Chesterfield.
Ellie was a busy mother, raising three pretty good kids, Kelly (arguably her favorite), Kalanit, and Kerri, who all actually believed they were rich (and at times, the favorite). Ellie maintained a beautiful garden as she raised her children, was the designated babysitter for her cousins and their children, and kept a spic and span home. In her spare time, she loved to read books to her grandchildren in animated and vibrant voices, dance the jitterbug at weddings, and read trashy novels. She lived a good and active life surrounded by loving family and friends, and spent her end days being cared for by her primary caretaker, daughter Kerri, and a team of hospice professionals from Preferred Hospice of Missouri.
She is survived by daughters Kelly Chappell, Kalanit Chappell (Dr. Will Soll), and Kerri (Sheldon) Roark; Grandchildren Chandler, Kaley, Alia, Jaiden, George, and Neviyah; Bonus Grandchildren Alyssa, Tyler, Shay; Great grandchild Za’Nyla; former husband and special friend Sherman Chappell; siblings Jim (Kathy) Yates, Kathy May, Bill (Sue) Yates; Brother-in-law Todd Chappell (Debbie), cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many, many loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcella and William Yates, sister Gayle Ann, and brothers-in-law, John May and Howard Chappell.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Preferred Hospice of Missouri in Farmington, Missouri- 810 Progress Drive Farmington, Mo. 63640.
