Ellen Mary Devery (nee Kelly) October 4, 2018. Fortified with the Sacramentsof Holy Mother Church, died peacefully with family at her side.
Ellen Mary Kelly was born on October 7, 1935 in Dublin, Ireland. She was the only child of William and Mary Anne (nee Willoughby) Kelly. Sadly, her mother died when she was only 4 years old so she was raised by her maternal grandparents in Hacketstown, County Carlow while her father moved to England during the war.
In 1949, she moved to London to be with her Father and Aunt Nora. At the age of 18, she met a handsome Irish accordion player named Daniel Patrick Devery at an Irish dance in London. They dated and fell in love but had a yearning to see the world. In 1959, she and Danny moved to Winnipeg, Canada where they were married on November 14, 1959. They loved America and wanted to be part of the American dream. In 1963, they moved to the St. Louis area to settle down and raise their daughter and son.
Ellen (Eileen as she was known by family and friends) always enjoyed life to the fullest and was a very devoted Mother and Grandmother. She was a life long animal lover and had a soft spot for any wayward creature that crossed her path. In her later years, she enjoyed her beloved cat Lucy and other family pets, praying her Rosary, puzzle books, enjoying nature, and spending time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years Daniel Patrick Devery; her loving granddaughter Julie Ann Devery; her parents Mary and William Kelly; and many aunts and uncles in Ireland.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Rosaleen Patricia Hughes (John); son—Brendan Kelly Devery (Tracy); grandchildren—Brendan Kelly Devery Jr and Claire Kathleen Hughes; as well as cousins and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ellen’s honor to the
Alzheimer's Association or
