Elsie E. Penfield (nee Popkay), of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the age of 86. Loving wife of the late Norman R. Penfield; beloved daughter of the late Harry F. and Ethel D. Popkay; devoted mother of Norval R. Penfield and Juanita E. Penfield; mother-in-law of Susie (Lindell) Miracle-Coleman; cherished grandma of Joshua R. (Rachel) Penfield, Nicole M. Watts, Jamie L. (Kyle) Fryman, Vanessa (Kenny) Purvis and Kenny (Kristen) Miracle; treasured great-grandma and Gigi of Ava Penfield, Jeremy & Brett Emerfoll, Klaire, Brooklynne, and Everett Fryman, Abrielle, Emma, & Juniper Miracle.
Elsie loved life to its fullest. She liked to treat people to her wonderful cooking and loved to host. Elsie was always happy to help and greatly enjoyed her role as caterer. She was also a very talented seamstress. She made the most beautiful clothing, including a stunning jacket for Norval's prom that stood out amongst all the others. Family was very important to Elsie. Her kids and grandkids were her life, she enjoyed being involved in all their activities.
Elsie worked for 39 1/2 years with the Ferguson Florissant School District in an administrative role before retiring. After she “retired” she went to work for Edward Jones as on-call branch office administrator at several Edward Jones Branches in the St. Louis Area for 16 years, retiring from that position in 2019. She was a very smart lady; Elsie was able to assist everybody with their tech and was even self-taught.
Elsie had a love affair with St. Louis her whole life, she had dreams of the big city and said she would be here someday. When she got to St. Louis, Elsie made it her home. She was happy in St. Louis and never wanted to leave. Elsie was a huge diehard St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan her whole life. Elsie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
