Ethel Marie Topel (nee Cotner), of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the age of 96. Loving wife of the late John Topel for almost 62 years; beloved daughter of the late Clyde Otto and Catherine Cotner; devoted mother of the late John (Judy) Topel Jr., Mickey (Levi) Kirchner; cherished grandmother of Marty (Angie) Kirchner, Julie (Andy) Worsham, Joe (Gretchen ) Topel, and Robin (Nathan) Daniels; treasured great-grandmother of Chase, Viv, Max, Dylan, Kaylee, Abby, Carter, Alivia, and Emmie; dear sister of Helen (the late Charlie) Jacobs, Blanche (the late Hugo) Nanney, Jean (the late Lloyd) Emmendorfer, JR (Peggy) Cotner, and Ruth (Troy) Wilson; sister-in-law of Annie (the wife of the late Howard Cotner) Warren; beloved aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Ethel is also preceded in death by her brothers, Howard Cotner, Al (the late Blanche) Cotner; and infant sister, Lenora Cotner.
Ethel and John moved a lot, John built many houses and Ethel loved to decorate them. They went on many vacations across the United States. They took family, friends, and grandkids on many of the trips with them. During those years, Ethel worked at Drug Package, Decora, Walmart and many other jobs. Ethel enjoyed playing cards, bingo, scratch off lottery tickets and going to the Casino. She had a huge doll collection at one time and enjoyed going to garage sales as well as having them herself. Ethel loved her family and especially her grandchildren. Christmas was Ethel’s favorite holiday. She always made Christmas extra special for her family. Ethel was very giving and fun loving. She was the best Mom ever. Ethel was blessed to have lived by herself until she was almost 94 years old. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Ethel's name to the donor’s choice.
