Eugene A. Steinhoff, Peacefully in the comfort of his home at the age of 97. Loving husband of 70 years of Sophia Echele Steinhoff. Son of the late Joseph and Lenora Steinhoff. Preceded in death by brothers Earl, Urban, Sylvester, Elmer, Harold; and sisters Lucille (Patty) Schnare, Mildred Griesnauer and Ethel Lammert. Survived by Bernice Nacke and Lester Steinhoff. Beloved father of Gary (Noretta) Steinhoff, Brenda (Terry) Hollander, Randal (Trish) Steinhoff and Keith (Donna) Steinhoff. Proud grandfather of Nicole (Mike) Schneider, Lisa (Keith) Mangles, Patrick (Marissa) Steinhoff, Blake (Trisha) Hollander, Kirk Hollander, Leigh Ann Hollander, Taylor (Stephanie) Steinhoff, Wm. A. (Drew) Steinhoff and Lauren Steinhoff. Great-Grandfather of 10, preceded in death by great-granddaughter Paige Steinhoff. Eugene was a WWII Army Veteran with active duty in the Pacific and European theaters. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for active service in Rhineland, Central Europe and the Aleutian Islands. Eugene was also awarded the Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star by the French Government. He was the founding organizer of St. Charles Junior Baseball Association and Duchesne High School Dad's Club. He was on the St. Charles City Parks Department Board of Directors from 1979-2000; St. Charles chamber of Commerce Award for service to youth athletics in 1972 and Lifetime Distinguished Service Award in 1994 (or 2005). Eugene was a member of St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame in 1984-1996 and American Legion Post 312 Baseball Board of Directors. He was a lifetime member of St. Charles Borromeo Church.
