Eva Marie Fitz passed away peacefully at the age of 91 at her home in St. Charles, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James M. Fitz, her son, Mark M. Fitz, her parents Julius and Susie Sellenschuetter, her sisters Doris (Gerald) Bush and Joyce (Russell) Eddington, and her brother Roger (Shirley) Sellenschuetter. She is survived by two loving daughters, Nancy Hinrichs and Martha Fitz, her son-in-law Gary Hinrichs and three amazing grandchildren: James (Emily) Hinrichs, Kathryn (Adam) Hall, and Caroline Hinrichs, and a great-granddaughter, Clare Hinrichs. She is also survived by her sister Perky (Curt) Marshall and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Marie was a lifelong resident of St. Charles. She met her future husband, Jim, who was two years ahead of her at St. Charles High School, at a Youth for Christ meeting. After Jim returned from military service in the Korean conflict, he and Marie married on June 19, 1954. While Jim was in the service, Marie attended Lindenwood College and eventually graduated on the same day as her mother from Washington University with a degree in Elementary Education. Marie went on to teach kindergarten before and after raising her family. In addition to teaching, she loved music, antiques and reading. She sang in both the Missouri Choral Society and the church choir for many decades. Her love of antiques came from a class she joined in the mid-1960’s where she made many dear friends. She was happiest when quietly (and hopefully without interruption) reading a book in the corner.
Above all, Marie was dedicated to her family and her Christian faith. Church was the center of her life and she enjoyed many deep and lasting friendships with fellow members of First Baptist Church in St. Charles. Her faith was modeled by her parents and grew after she and Jim were married. Marie and Jim gave of their time, talent and treasure to their church and in service of the Lord in many ways. Thanks to God's redeeming grace, we rejoice that she is in Heaven with her Savior and is reunited with the many loved ones who went before her.
