Evelyn Pauline McDaniel

February 26, 1933 — January 10, 2022

Evelyn Pauline McDaniel (nee Searcy) passed away peacefully from this life on Monday, January 10, 2022, at her son’s home in O Fallon. She was born on February 26,1933 in Linn County, Missouri to James Wallace and Lela May Searcy, the seventh of 10 children.

She left the family farm near Laredo, MO to join her sister in Kansas City, KS to help with her new niece. Knowing she had no idea how to sew; she began working for Simmons Mattress Company, after making a supervisory position, Evelyn was asked, “You had no idea how to sew before taking this job, did you?” She responded, with a guilty no answer. However, she was always skilled with her hands and taught herself how to sew. During this time, she reunited with Richard McDaniel after his service in the Army. They fell in love and were married on March 1, 1953, in Sunflower, KS. They were married for 66 years before he passed away in 2019. The couple made their first home in Kansas City, KS, then moved to Shawnee, KS in 1959, and retiring to Galt, MO in 1986. Evelyn and Richard where members of the Galt Christian Church.

Evelyn loved sewing and was an excellent seamstress, first using her shills to make Barbie doll clothing then advancing to make numerous outfits for friends and family including weddings making all the wedding dresses. Her love of sewing and other hobbies evolved into making beautiful porcelain dolls. She enjoyed supporting her sons with their many activities from concerts, baseball, and football games. Evelyn loved to attend auto racing and was an avid NASCAR fan. She loved her action sports like Boxing, MMA fighting and WWE Pro wrestling, she enjoyed the action. She loved to travel with Richard, as they made many trips around the country visiting family and viewing the sites. During the Missouri winters they made many snowbird trips to Overton, NV as they enjoyed staying with family, fishing, and bingo.

Evelyn is survived by her two sons: Dennis (Beth), Ogden, UT and Rob, O’Fallon, MO, grandsons, Nathan and Andrew, Ogden, UT, sisters Raymah Smith of Galt, MO and Carolyn Ricket (Delano), Chillicothe, MO and brother Russell Searcy, Galt, MO and brother-in-law Homer McDaniel, Independence, MO and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard McDaniel, granddaughter Heather, by her parents, brothers Junior Searcy and Gerald Searcy, sisters Jeanette Norman, Roberta Ishmael, Marion Searcy, and Shirley Eller.

Due to COVID concerns a Celebration of Life will be announced later.
