Mr. Francis H. Ehlmann, 86, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by his family on the afternoon of Friday, May 18, 2012. Francis entered this life on January 25, 1926 in St. Charles, Missouri, born to the union of the late Martin L. and Clara (Heitgerd) Ehlmann. On July 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to LaVerne L. Hackmann, and to this union five children were born. He and LaVerne were life-long residents of St. Charles, and it was in St. Charles that they raised their children and were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Francis helped establish Ehlmann Auto body, a family owned business, which served the St. Charles community for many years. Francis served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War, receiving the Korean Service Medal, four bronze service stars, a United Nations Service medal and an Army of Occupation medal for his service in Japan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 312 and active in St. Charles city baseball and softball; sponsoring numerous teams and coaching some. He enjoyed fishing, horse shoes, barbecuing, tinkering on cars, and puzzles of any kind. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marlan, Harvey and Kurt; and one sister, Jeanette. Along with his loving wife of 61 years, Francis is survived by his five children, Michelle (Mark) Rood, of St. Peters, Missouri, Mark Ehlmann of Harvester, Missouri, Dawn (Gene) Walkenhorst,of Troy, Missouri, Dana Ehlmann, St. Charles, Missouri and Darla Ehlmann of Alton, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kyle and Kara Rood, Tyler Ehlmann, and Courtney and Clay Walkenhorst; two brothers, Arlie Ehlmann and Carlton Ehlmann; one sister, Lucille Meyer; two sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, as well as a host of other family and friends.
