Frankie D. Cantrell

April 7, 1938 — November 12, 2020

Frankie D. Cantrell (Martin) was born April 7, 1938, in Clarksville, Arkansas, to parents Irving and Beth Beasley Martin. She passed away November 12, 2020, in Mineral Wells, Texas.

Frankie was the youngest of four sisters and loved her family greatly.  She graduated from Clarksville High School early and moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she began her lifelong career as a bookkeeper. She met her husband, Larry, at church, and they were married on September 1, 1962. in 1976 they moved to St. louis and stayed there through retirement.  In 2013 they moved to Texas to be closer to family.

Frankie loved the Lord and tried to exemplify Him in all she did.  She volunteered in churches, helping with youth groups, Women’s Missionary Union, in the kitchen, and doing accounting duties in the office.  She was fortunate to go on several mission trips, including one to The United Arab Emirates. She also loved the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home and volunteered for their fundraisers. Another cause she was very involved in was the food pantry associated with her church in Lake St. Louis. She had a heart for service and was there whenever she was needed.

She loved music and sang in groups and church choirs her whole life.  When she and her sisters were young, they formed a quartet that performed regularly.  She instilled that love of music in her children as well, encouraging them to sing and play instruments.

She was a loving wife of 58 years, a mother, aunt, grandmother, and sister.  She loved reading, doing puzzles, the color blue, and drinking coffee from thin china cups.  She was an avid sports fan and absolutely loved her Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals. She still held a grudge, feeling the Cardinals were robbed of the 1985 series. Frankie was the scorekeeper for her church’s softball teams as well. The truth be told, she was the unofficial coach, often bribing “her” players with banana splits for home runs.

But the thing she loved the most was being a grandmother.  To her, there was nothing better on this earth than loving Ashley, Skyler, and Samuel.

Frankie is survived by her husband, Larry, of Mineral Wells, TX, her daughters, Terri Carrington and her husband, Doug, of St. Louis, MO, and Tina Altum and her husband, Lawrence, of Graford, TX, her sister Freddie Arbuthnot of Bentonville, AR, grandchildren Ashley Carrington, Skyler Carrington, and Samuel Altum, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dolan Martin, sisters Gussie Johnson and Jimmie Fortney, and grandchildren Nathan and Lance Carrington.
