March 26, 1930 – October 8, 2018

In the early morning hours of October 8, 2018, Rev. Fred Boatright left his earthly home to spend eternity with his Father in Heaven.

Fred was born on March 26, 1930 to Matilda (nee Vaughn) and Leeman Boatright.  He grew up in West Frankfort, a small town in southern Illinois.  He graduated from Franklin High School where he met and fell in love with Dorothy Wall. They were married on May 22, 1948.  It was because of Dorothy’s Christian example that Fred chose to accept Jesus as his Savior on January 27, 1952.  As he began to “walk with the Lord,” Fred felt God calling him to dedicate his life to the ministry in April of 1952.  While attending Southern Illinois University and then Southwestern Theological Seminary, Fred supported his family by following in his earthly father’s footsteps as a barber.

Following the Great Commission, and seeking to win souls for Christ, Fred and his helpmate Dorothy, pastored 10 Southern Baptist Churches in five different states.  Many sermons, revivals, here and in other countries, weddings, funerals, hospital visits, mentoring, support for those in need, the joy of Christian fellowship and countless ways of sharing God’s love were the essence of Fred’s life.

When Fred and Dorothy said “until death do us part” they meant it.  On May 22, 2018 they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  God blessed them with three daughters, Cheryl L. (the late Edward) Stephan, Jan E. (Douglas) Dixon, and Amy L. (Rick) Moseley; grandchildren, Jason Yates, Chaz (Jessica) Moseley, Grace Moseley, Hope Moseley, and Kehli (Dave) Calderwood; granddaughter-in-law, Holly Dixon; great-grandchildren, Mikayla Yates, Nathan Wilson-Yates, Olivia Horak, Alaina Yates, Natalie Yates, Trinity Edwards, Jaxson Moseley, Logan Moseley, Jon Dixon, Sarah Dixon, Emma Calderwood, and Andrew Calderwood; and a great-great grandchild, Reese Finster.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Matilda and Leeman Boatright; sister, Betty Rae (Don) Sheffer; brother, John T. (Betty Lou) Anderson; and grandchildren, Dawn Renee Yates, Joshua Wade Yates, Gina Louise Moseley, and Trevan Allen Dixon.

Fred will forever be missed by his loving family.  Yet, they are at peace in knowing his suffering is no more… they will be reunited with him someday… he has seen God face to face and had heard him proclaim, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant!”

The family would like to extend a special 'Thank You' to the wonderful staff members of SSM Hospice, Aging Well at Fairwinds, and Fairwinds - River's Edge.  The care and support given to Fred and his family will always be remembered.

Memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s honor to SSM Hospice or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
