Galen Frank Sinkey, 58, of Bridgeton, MO died on April 4, 2025, in a flash flood in southern Missouri.
He was born on March 14, 1967, in Englewood, CO to Vernon and Trudy Sinkey. Two years later he was joined by a sister, Lainie, who was his constant shadow. He spent his formative years in St. Paul, MN and Springfield, MO. Galen loved spending time outdoors with family and friends, especially at Bay Lake in MN and Table Rock Lake here in MO. Galen’s creative talents were evident from a young age, when he wrote imaginative tall tales and crafted elaborate, scaled drawings of house plans. He was fascinated by vehicles and by age seven he could name the make, model and year of just about every car on the road.
As Galen grew toward adulthood, he committed himself to a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ. Throughout his life this love sustained him through both joyful and difficult times. Wherever he lived, he served faithfully in his church community and devoted himself to Bible study, prayer, and service. We are comforted and thankful that he is with the Lord now, where there is no pain or sorrow.
After graduating from high school, Galen attended Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. There, he met Melanie TenPas. They were married from 1989-2011 and afterward remained committed to co-parenting their three children.
Galen taught himself computer programming and enjoyed a successful career in software design, most recently working in the healthcare industry. He always kept up with programming language developments and exhibited a lifelong love of learning.
Galen enjoyed woodworking and became an accomplished photographer, specializing in capturing the beauty of the natural world. He loved taking road trips with his sweet canine companion, Shiloh. Together they explored state and national parks all over the western United States.
The greatest joy of Galen’s life was raising his three children, Caleb, Jared, and Deidra. He loved them deeply and was a steady rock they could always depend on. He was so proud of their accomplishments and the kind, thoughtful young adults they have become.
Galen is survived by his parents, Vern and Trudy Sinkey of St Peters, MO, his sons Caleb Sinkey of Berkeley, MO and Jared Sinkey of Lenexa, KS, and his daughter Deidra Sinkey of O’Fallon, MO. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Lainie Ives (Nicholas) of Newburyport, MA, his niece Amanda Ives of Syracuse, NY, nephew Charlie Ives of Rochester, NY, and his special friend Teresa McFaul.
Galen was dearly loved by family and friends who will treasure his memory always.
