Patterson, Garett “Gary” Wayne (1946-2021) of Lake St. Louis Missouri, surrounded by his loving family, was called home on Thursday, September 16th, 2021. He will be greatly missed by his children, Robert Cecil Wayne (Jessica) Patterson and Jacqueline (Sean) Stickney, and his seven grandchildren. This loving, kind, mild mannered father and grandfather was always ready for a “pick me up” and a spirited piggy back ride. This devoted, caring man will be missed by all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his siblings: Robert Patterson, Marsha (Eddie) Brown, and Cathy (Chuck) Redfearn. His parents Robert V Patterson and Bernice Patterson Whitlow preceded him in death.
Gary was a generous man offering the shirt off his back to strangers as well as family. No job was too big or small. A great problem solver, he could take anything apart and put it back together better than he found it.
After 28 years he retired from General Motors and was active in the UAW 2250. Gary had a passion for cars, if he wasn’t working on a car you could find him eagerly hitting the garage sales or flea markets. A lover of travel and nature, he enjoyed fishing and picking fresh fruit at local orchards. Then of course eating the fruits of his labor apple, peach, or blackberry pies and cobblers.
Gary’s favorite time of year was fall. Each season going forward without him will be a little dimmer, as his intelligent, bright smile would warm even the coldest of winters. Fall will take on a different meaning for us this year. As the beautiful colors he loved emerge and the leaves fall, we will remember his calming presence and his legacy:
“if you take care of this, it will last;”
“life with those you love, is more important than material possessions;”
and “have courage, be kind.”
Memorial donations may be made in Garett Wayne Patterson’s name to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation.
We would also like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses and Barnes Jewish Hospital.
