Torbett, Gary Burl, of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, born September 16, 1942 died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the age of 71. Loving Son of J.C. and Gladys Torbett, brother of John Torbett and Tanua Rae Snyder. Beloved husband of Sandra Louise Torbett (nee: Vessels). Dear father of Brooke Chitty, and step father of Scott Null, Shawn Null, and Tyler Null. Grandfather of 14, and great-grandfather of 3.
Gary was born in Beaumont, Texas, but moved as a small child to Missouri, where his father purchased a small independent telephone company. Gary attended public school in Wright City, MO, from second grade thru his sophomore year and graduated high school at Kemper Military School, in Boonville, MO. After service in the U.S. Army, Gary obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University, in Auburn, AL. After graduating from Auburn, Gary followed in his dad's footsteps in then telephone industry, and was employed by Telephone and Data Systems in a career that spanned thirty two years, with postings in various positions in Alabama, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and for the last twenty three years in Oklahoma, where he retired in 2003. During his time in Oklahoma, Gary served as President of the Oklahoma Telephone Assn., President of the Choctaw Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center, member of the Tinker Air Force Base Advisory Committee, member of the Choctaw Planning Committee. He was a member of Dardenne Presbyterian Church, in Dardenne, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital or Salvation Army.
