Gary Sims of Troy, Missouri, passed away at the age of 75 on Sunday, July 14, 2019. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Sims; his son, Erik (Tina) Sims; his grandson, Nathan Erik Sims; his sister, Aquilla Lawson; his sisters-in-law, Paula Jones, Starr (Steve) Himmel, and Jean Hampel; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Barrah.
Gary was a man of many passions and interests. He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association and tested his marksmanship skills in Cowboy Shooting competitions, where he was known as “Hawk Mortimer.” He was a natural engineer and built and operated his own radio-controlled cars and airplanes. Gary loved riding his Harley and even made it up to Sturgis twice for the big motorcycle rallies. Fishing was a special talent of Gary’s and he competed in fishing tournaments to prove it. Gary had a special place in his heart for dogs and dedicated time to raising Rottweilers and showing them at canine competitions.
