Rev. Sherman Eugene Anglin, of O'Fallon, Missouri, son of the late Rev. Harvey S. Anglin and the late Nelle M. Anglin née: Essex, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the age of 79 (just 5 days short of his 80th birthday). Gene was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on August 29, 1931. He went to Central Missouri College and Boston University School of Theology. He married Winifred R. Lobdell. They had two children, Peggy Anglin-Rekowski of St. Peters, MO., and David E. Anglin of O'Fallon, MO.; and four grandchildren, Sarah, Lauren, J.T., and Bryce. Rev. Anglin served at the following United Methodist Churches of Missouri: Leadwood, Ironton, Zion UMC in South St. Louis, California, Salem, Arch St. UMC in Hannibal, Kingshighway UMC (now New Covenant UMC) in South St. Louis, and Arlington UMC in Bridgeton. He was a scholar, especially of the Old Testament and of classical literature. He played the French Horn. His great recreation was camping and hiking, and photography. He had his own darkroom and developed his own slides. He, with his family, camped and hiked in every state except for Hawaii. He had a great love of people, and took their concerns to heart. He always had time for them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Earth Angel Aviators or to the Disaster Response Team, both outreaches of the Wentzville United Methodist Church.
