George Earl Vickroy, 82, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away on August 11, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, MO.
George was born November 26, 1934 in Moline, IL, the son of Charles and Thelma Boothe Vickroy. He grew up in Port Byron, IL and graduated from Port Byron Community High School, where he excelled athletically, Lettering in four sports. He was a standout running back for the football team, and played basketball, as well. He had been a resident of Orion, IL, and member of Orion Christian Church.
He married Phyllis June Green on October 6, 1972, in Rock Island, IL.
George worked at Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Company (currently MidAmerican Energy,) and retired after 30 years of service.
George was an expert in all aspects of home building and repair, and carpentry. After retirement, he did countless home improvement projects and repairs for everyone that needed help. He was a tireless hard worker and never said, “no” to anyone. George bowled in leagues, and loved to play cards; he played in many Euchre tournaments. He loved to watch all sports, and NASCAR racing
Survivors include: wife Phyllis Vickroy; daughter Tamara Stark, Pittsburgh, PA; sons Steven Vickroy, Bowling Green, KY, and Eric (Kathy) Vickroy, Orlando, FL; step-daughter Julie Green McAlister (Lester), O’Fallon, MO; grandchildren Joseph, Alyse, and Ethan Stark, Mathew, Sara and Laura Vickroy, Lloyd and Isabelle Vickroy, and Joel McAlister.
Preceded in death: infant son Douglas George Vickroy; parents Charles and Thelma Vickroy; siblings Letitia Tompkins, Lloyd, Theodore, Roger, Robert, William, and Charles Vickroy; granddaughter Jessica Vickroy.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Chapel in Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island, IL, on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at 12 pm. Interment of the cremated remains will follow. All family and friends are welcome.
