George H. Chakides

Chakides, George H. of Maryland Heights, MO, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018, at the age of 91. Loving husband of the late Jacquenell C. Chakides; beloved son of the late Harry John Chakides and Katherine Hatzi-Daniel Chakides; devoted father of George H. (Julie) Chakides, Jr., Adonis H. Chakides, and Mark S. Chakides; Step-father of Lana D. (Steve) Thornal-Beckley; cherished grandfather of Cory (Molly) Chakides, Grant Sineath, Trey Chakides, Jacob Beckmann, and Sammy Musgrove; treasured great-grandfather of Nikos, Katina, and Thalia; brother of Harry J. (Jane)  Chakides of Beaufort, SC; sister, Electra L. Julias of Virginia Beach, VA.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Harry Chakides, sister-In-law Ruth Weekley Chakides, sister May C.  Koutroulakis, brother-in-law Dr. Sam Koutroulakis, and nephew George Koutroulakis.

Mr. Chakides was born February 4, 1927 in Savannah, GA and grew up in Beaufort, S.C. which he considered his hometown. After graduating High School at the age of 16, he immediately attended 'The Citadel', Military College of South Carolina, where he was a middle weight intramural boxing champion as part of the Ghost Team of '44. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1944, serving in WWII's European Theater of Operations (ETO). Upon completion of active military service, he graduated from the University of South Carolina. He received a direct commission as Lieutenant, Infantry, in 1949 continuing his service in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1977, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He was a Life member of the St Charles VFW Post 2866, life member and past president of the Reserve Officer's Association, Palmetto Chapter 15, Columbia South Carolina.

He retired from McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) as Manager of Administration of Domestic and International Marketing of McDonnell Douglas Information Systems. Also served two terms as a board member of the Employee Charity & Community Services, was a member of the Board of Governors of the MDC St Louis Management Club and taught Understanding Human Behavior Courses as part of the MDC Education Department.

George was a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

His greatest loves were his late wife Jackie, his entire extended family, Greek food, the Church, football, boxing, and dogs. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
