George Hughey Lee Jr., 82 years old, of Fredericksburg, Texas entered into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 10, 2018. George was born in Carthage, Missouri to George and Henrietta (Foland) Lee on February 19, 1936. He was an only child, and lost his father early in life. He was blessed with a wonderful stepfather, Eugene Clingan, who raised him as his own. He spent many memorable summers as a youth on his grandparents’ farm in Carthage. His childhood was not easy but the circumstances instilled in him a love and appreciation for family that would last a lifetime.
After high school, George served 2 years as a medic in the army and was stationed in Japan. When he returned, he met the love of his life, Dolores Ann Skelton. They were married Christmas Eve, 1959 in Louisiana, Missouri and shared 58 loving years of marriage. He was an accounting graduate of the University of Missouri and earned his MBA from Lindenwood University. His first career was in business. After moving to Texas in the mid 1980’s, he pursued his love of working with young people and went back to school to earn his teaching certificate. He taught accounting in high school in San Antonio and, after his retirement, substituted for many years at Tivy High School in Kerrville. He especially enjoyed working with the kids in the Life Skills class. He was very active in Boy Scouts of America his entire adult life, serving as District Commissioner and earning the Silver Beaver, scouting’s highest service award. He was a member of Kerrville Bible Church and looked forward to worshipping the Lord with his church family every week.
George never met a stranger, and made friends wherever he went. He loved the outdoors and never missed an opportunity to take camping trips with his family or his scouting friends. He was known far and wide for his entertaining stories around the campfire. One of his greatest joys in life was taking his grandchildren on vacation adventures that they still talk about to this day. His love for his family, passion for serving others, and a life lived with integrity impacted many and left a great legacy throughout successive generations of his family.
George was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, whom he cherished and who cared for him tenderly in his last years. He is also survived by his daughter, Diana Meers and husband Mark of St. Charles, Missouri and his son, George Lee III and wife Noel of Kerrville, Texas. His grandchildren: Ryan Meers and wife Katy of Chesterfield, Missouri; Shannon (Lee) Strauss and husband Adam of Kerrville, Texas; Rick Meers and wife Jenny of Washington, Missouri; Colin Lee and fiancée Lindsey Adams of Houston, Texas; and Sammy Winters and wife Carly of Hermleigh, Texas; plus 9 great-grandchildren.
