George “Jim” Quick

June 17, 1936 — October 15, 2015

Quick, George James (Jim),

Jim, age 79, passed away in his home in St. Peters on October 15, 2015. Beloved husband of Norma (nee Worthey); dear father to David (Lotti), Joanne, and Julie (Tim) Murphy; beloved grandfather to Ksenia, Will, Max, Collin (Tanya) and Brandi (Bentley); brother of Maureene Quick; brother-in-law of Jimi Quick, Dotty (Dan) Bollner, James Worthey, and Richard Worthey, Jr.; He is preceded in death by his brothers John and Tom (Emmalyn). Dear uncle and friend to many.

Jim was born in 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ernest and Julia. Later he graduated from Normandy High School in 1954, and in 1957 married Norma, his high school sweetheart. As a young married man, he served as a first lieutenant and choral director in the U. S. Army. He had a great passion for music and eventually earned a Master’s in music history and theory from Washington University. For decades he taught instrumental music in the public schools of Ladue and Ferguson-Florissant. He also played professionally, saxophone and clarinet, in the Sentimental Journey Dance Band for which he also created many wonderful musical arrangements. Indeed, he was a true Renaissance man with many talents; the ultimate handyman, he could fix, build or make anything -- and he was an amazing wood carver, creating many intricate figures, from Hairless Joe to Don Quixote. He was a true treasure and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s name may be made to the American Lung Association or Mercy Hospice St. Louis.
