McCartney, George Hugh, of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the age of 90. Dear son of the late George J. and Ethel McCartney; loving husband of Audrey L. McCartney; devoted father of Michael (Martha) McCartney, John (Leslie) McCartney, Ann (Tom) Pappas, and Kay (Michael) Shirley; cherished grandfather of Kim, Greg, Katherine, Joseph, Raymond, Mariah, and the late John Michael McCartney; dear brother of Mary Jane (the late Emil) Lambrechts, Barbara (Harley) Wiatt, Geraldine (Ed) Buechler, and the late Virginia McCartney. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, including his favorite niece Mary Ann Lambrechts. George was a Monotype Caster and did makeups for the St Louis Post-Dispatch for many years before he retired, and was a member of the CWA/ITU Union. He then spent time working as a cashier and guide at the Gateway Arch. He bravely and proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Ommaney Bay. George was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister, serving at Christian Hospital, worked in the food pantry at St. Jerome Catholic Church with his wife, and when he had spare time, he enjoyed playing golf. The family would like to thank the staff of Barathaven Alzheimer’s Special Care Center for their tireless dedication and support. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
