George Terrence Cavanaugh

Cavanaugh, George Terrence, of St. Charles, Missouri, played his last 18 holes of golf, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the age of 86.  Born April 9, 1928 in Washington, Indiana.  Loving husband of Delores Day Cavanaugh; beloved son of the late George and Leone Cavanaugh; proud father of Lucinda "Cindy" Menkhus, Kim (Steve) Hrin, Alisa (Bob) Clark, and Kevin (Denise) Cavanaugh; cherished grandfather of Andrew, Zachary (Brittany), Jake (Jordyn), Michael, and Samantha; treasured great-grandfather of Rocky, Richie, and Gemma.  His sister-in-law, Flo, survives him.  He was preceded in death by his twin brother Jack Cavanaugh and sister Emma Lou Smith.

George graduated from Washington Catholic High School, Washington, Indiana in 1946.  He was a talented basketball player on a proud Indiana Hoosier basketball team.  He also played basketball at Western Kentucky State University. After graduating from Western Kentucky he joined the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War. George received his Masters in Education from St. Louis University in 1960.

George taught social studies at Riverview Gardens High School, East Ladue and West Ladue Junior High School, and Pattonville High School.  George was the first principal at Pattonville Heights Junior High School 1967-1976.

George was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Bogey Hills Country Club.  For many years he recorded books (Talking Tapes) for the St. Louis Society for the Blind.

 The family is grateful for the care and support given by Kevin Haynes, George's caregiver and other caregivers from Nurses and Company, the entire staff at Mt. Carmel Senior Living and Heartland Hospice.
