George Weir, 93, died Friday, November 13, 2020.
Born on December 17, 1926 in Kilmarnock, Scotland, George and his younger brother Ronnie (deceased) were the children of John and Mary Weir. As a child George was a member of Scotland’s Boys Brigade. He joined the British Armed Forces at age 18 and spent the end of World War II in India during her Independence from Britain. He loved India, enjoying their food and songs throughout his life and he felt that every person he would meet from India was his best friend.
On September 29th, 1950, he was married to Elizabeth Renwick (who passed on July 17, 2020.) Their marriage was forever, lasting over 69 years. After their marriage, they left Scotland and immigrated with their son, Maurice to Elyria, Ohio. Their other children Graham and Shona were born in Ohio.
George was an extremely hard worker, often working three jobs at the same time and then getting a degree in Industrial Engineering by taking classes at night. Later in his life, he was a guest instructor at Stanford University in California. This tickled him as he would say, “Pretty good for a night school student, right?”
George and Elizabeth raised their family, Maurice, Graham and Shona in Marion, Ohio, where George was a member of the Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason. They opened their home up to many, including hosting African foreign exchange students.
He worked for Ford Motor Company, Whirlpool Corporation, WOFAC a division of Science Management, and had his own consulting firm. Having a Top Secret clearance, allowed him to work on several submarine retrofits, and he supervised work on the rebuild of the aircraft carrier “Ronald Reagan” along with other government work. He also consulted with Intel and many other private companies.
In 1990, George and Elizabeth moved to the Bodega Bay area in California where they loved the cooler climate and views of the Pacific Ocean. George became a Christian Science Reader conducting Sunday Services at the Petaluma Church.
In 2007, they moved to O'Fallon, Missouri to be closer to grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by Maurice and his wife Kerry, Graham and his wife Nancy, Shona and her husband Eric; his grandchildren, Tristan, Kaily, Stirling, Rachel, Dylan, and Giorgi; and his great grandchildren; Ainsley, Merritt, Reagan, and Addison.
He lived a full life and was always a happy person raising people's spirits. In his final days in the nursing home, the staff and patients would smile when they heard George singing out one of the songs he learned as a young man serving his country while in India.
The family requests no memorial gifts.
