Gerri L. Hirst

Gerri L. Hirst (nee Ernst), of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the age of 82. Beloved wife of the late Robert L. Hirst; cherished daughter of the late William and Mary Ernst; devoted mother of John (Doug) Gasek; treasured grandmother of Holly, Ben, Alysa, Marcin, Dante, and Dawson; dear sister of Gayle Lyles, Mary Edgley and Bill Ernst.

Gerri Hirst was a dedicated teacher, school librarian, and passionate advocate for nature and human rights. Throughout her career, she inspired countless students with her love of learning and her commitment to fostering a warm, welcoming library space. Outside of her work in education, Gerri was an active member of organizations like the Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, and Audubon Society, working tirelessly to protect the environment and promote sustainability.

Gerri loved spending time outdoors, enjoying hiking, biking, and reading, and her deep connection to nature was reflected in both her personal life and advocacy work. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, compassion, and service to her community. Gerri will be remembered for her warmth and dedication to making the world a better place.
