Glennon Herman Myers Jr was by all accounts the consummate professional and good guy, always extremely generous, plus happy to go out of his way to help people in every ounce of his spare time. He was an Illinois fried fish foodie and Golden Eagle Ferry frequenter, who sported comfortably nondescript attire always. Glennon was a prior, keen motorcyclist, projectionist, and gardener. His motto was why have one of everything when you can have ten. He accomplished everything with military precision. A Navy veteran who passed away at home on Thursday April 9, 2020, at the age of 82.
Glennon was born and raised in St Louis. He went to Corpus Christi G.S., and graduated Fairview H.S., Jennings, St Louis MO. U.S. Navy recruit enlistment July 1956. Lakehurst Hangar No. 1 – Wikipedia. As a young man out of the service, Glennon worked at Ginnever’s TV and Radio on Main Street in O’Fallon, then had his own home business of the same, including his library of schematics. Worked at McDonnell Douglas and (St Charles) Conductron for over 30 years. When laid off he worked for his cousin’s STL HVAC and had his own home-based HVAC. Lastly, worked for the St Louis Admiral (President Casino) in the ship maintenance and engineering department.
Loving Naval life and being stationed at Lakehurst meant prime time off could be spent with buddies going up to NYC. It was there at an Easter Day Parade that he met and was asked out by a smartly dressed Brit down from Hamilton Ontario. As fate would have it, they met on the steps outside St Patrick’s Cathedral, thus his future Lakehurst leave was spent travelling to Canada. Marrying shortly thereafter, spending over 60 years together with the love of his life and as he often called her, “his Valerie!” Glennon was a workaholic who was a supportive caretaker of his family and one who never wavered, regardless.
Glennon loved music and a great show. He enjoyed taking his family to the STL Goldenrod Showboat, known for unique style melodrama and vaudeville shows featuring fabulous vintage ragtime and jazz bands with piano bar afterwards. In the mid 1970’s he introduced his love for music to his daughters by gifting each with a stereo, speakers and headphones. The house was never the same. In the day Glennon had many albums, but his often played favorite was Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (A Taste of Honey)! His take on music was varied and progressive from Polka Joe to the St Louis Symphony Orchestra, saw LRB at the Fabulous Fox Theatre STL, and Yanni at Riverport. Devoted supporter of PBS for over thirty years. Avid watcher of everything, including channel 9 rock concerts of all genre’s such as, the Moody Blues and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
His kindness and quest for great things in life knew no bounds. Glennon constantly worked to live the good life in which he was afforded fantastic 4-6+ week family vacations, both domestic and international. Eventually taking each grandchild (while in H.S.), on a month-long international trip of a lifetime of their choosing which were, London England-Paris France, London England-Edinburgh Scotland, London England-Rome Italy.
Never dull, always a fun guy who enjoyed life completely.
