Weisenstein, Harold F., of St. Charles, Missouri, formerly of St. Peters and Florissant, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the age of 88. Loving husband of Margarette L. Weisenstein, who preceded him in death this year; beloved son of the late George and Lucille Weisenstein; devoted father of Sharon Thompsen (spouse: Philip Thompsen) and Debra Weisenstein; adoring grandfather of Maryann Sargent (spouse: Russell Sargent) and Kevin Racine; brother-in-law of Barbara McDonald-Wathen (spouse: Bill Wathen); uncle of James Robert Steenbergen, Brenda Miller (spouse: Mike McDonough), Barry Steenbergen, and Karen Roach (spouse: Tom Roach); and cousin to Gene and Melvin Summers, and Paul and John Hennecke.
He is also survived by his 'German family': daughter Dagmar Neuberg (spouse: Erika Ullmann); grandson Michael Neuberg (spouse: Stephanie Auer-Neuberg); granddaughter Anne-Kathrin Neuberg-Vural (spouse: Turgay Vural); great-grandchildren Jona, Niklas, and Mara Neuberg; and Hans Neuberg, father of Michael and Anne-Kathrin. His caregiver and caring friend during his final illness, Katy Giger, who became like a member of his family, also survives him.
Reared in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Harold moved with his parents to St. Louis at the age of 10, eventually living in St. Louis County and later St. Charles County. He was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and served in WWII as an infantryman, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal. In 1950, he graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in mechanical engineering. Most of his professional career was with Olin Corporation of East Alton, IL, where he rose to be manager of various engineering departments. He holds two patents for shotgun shell manufacturing processes.
Harold's interests during his life ranged from model airplanes to photography to chess to computers. He was a family man and active in his church. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, having visited at least 18 countries.
