SERVICE, Harold R., August 22, 1923 - April 19, 2007. Harold R. Service, 83, of Corvallis, OR (formerly of St. Charles County, MO), passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Corvallis, Thursday. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he was the son of Fred and Goldie Service. Harold served in the Army Air Force as a radio operator and mechanic during World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed as a field service engineer with McDonnell Douglas and Boeing. In his leisure time, Harold enjoyed traveling and all kinds of sporting events. He was an avid fan of the OSU Gymnastic Team and an OSU Beaver Booster. Preceded in death by his parents; he is survived by his former wife and close friend, Shirley; daughters and sons-in-law Tanya and Michael Chaplin of Corvallis, OR and Tamyra and Brian Zellner of Lemoore, California; grandchildren Alana Chaplin and Brandon, Aaron and Kyle Zellner; sister Beatrice Landon; and numerous nieces and nephews. SERVICES: The family is being served by the Baue Funeral & Memorial Center, 3950 West Clay, St. Charles, MO. There is no public visitation. Graveside Service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, April 30, 2007 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. The family requests memorial donations be directed to either Benton Hospice Service or the OSU Beaver Athletic Scholarship Fund in care of McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis, OR.
