Harry J. Mehrhoff

September 24, 1924 — March 13, 2015

Mehrhoff, Harry J. went to his maker on March 13, 2015. He was born September 24, 1924. Beloved husband of Eleanor Fern (nee Herrmann); 'His Fern' for 68 years. Proud father of seven children: Glen (Jamie); Linda Ackenhausen; Robin (Martin) Cohen; John (Donna); Perry (Janet); Sherry (Frank) Waters and Barbara (John) Gorczyca. Dear grandfather of Jay Mehrhoff, Carrie Mehrhoff, Doug Ackenhausen, Tom Ackenhausen, Michele Steger, Andrew Steger, Erin Adelsberger, Kellie Gallagher, Johnna Wishnask, Joshua Mehrhoff, Shawn Mehrhoff, Lacey Hesse, Harrison Waters, Ryan Gorczyca, and Mandy Fitzpatrick. Loving great-grandfather of 15. He is survived by his sister, Margaret (the late Roy) Behrendt, and preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marie Mehrhoff (nee Bremehr), four sisters (Marie, Viola, Vera, and Delores) and his older brother, Arthur. He is godfather, uncle and great uncle to many.
Our 'Main Man' served his country as a proud Marine in WWII as a field artillery crewman, and anti-aircraft machine gun crewman in the Asiatic Pacific area. He was involved in the capture and occupation of Guam and the Marianas Islands in August of 1944. He completed his tour of duty at Pearl Harbor in 1945. In later years, he received the Marine Corp Commandant's coin.
He worked at Mallinckrodt for more than 40 years, which began a legacy of over 160 years of family members working for the same company. He was a dedicated volunteer at his church, a devoted family man and a friend who always had a joke to tell or a song to sing. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed dancing. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missouri Veterans Home or Alzheimer's Association St. Louis Chapter.
