Helen Rawlings, age 95, died October 24, 2021, dear daughter of the late Benjamin and Dorothy (Miller) George, wife of the late John W. Rawlings. She was preceded in death by son, John George Rawlings and grandson Thomas Brandon Van Hee; survived by daughters Barbara (Roy) Van Hee and JoAnne (Bruce) Vieweg; loving grandmother of Michelle Van Hee, Scott (Stephanie) Van Hee, Emily Vieweg, Anna (Nate) Zelinske; great-grandmother of nine.
Helen was born and grew up in St. Louis. She was encouraged by her father to pursue her education and she enrolled in Miss Hickey’s Secretarial School. She met her husband in church and they married towards the end of his WWII service in the Army Air Corps. She was a proud stay-at-home mother of her son and twin daughters. Once they were in school she resumed her secretarial and office manager work in a variety of settings, including administrative assistant to the Principal at Normandy Jr. High, and Monsanto Co. Helen was a gifted seamstress, crafter, and china painter, passing her talents on to her family members. In her retirement she was active as a volunteer in the Oasis Reading program and in the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. She was known for her kindness, strong organizational skills, a giving heart, and for being a gracious and welcoming hostess.
She will be laid to rest with her husband in a private ceremony at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
