Helen T. Schnare, a long-time educator, died on October 10, 2013 at Meadowlands Assisted Living in O'Fallon, Missouri. Mrs. Schnare spent nearly 30 years in secondary education, mainly in St. Charles.
Loving wife of the late Paul O. Schnare and dear daughter of the late Walter and Flora Talley. She is survived by her beloved children John Schnare, Mary Stodden, and Katherine (Casey) Foulke; and her cherished grandchildren Stephen (Kaitlin) Schnare, Sarah Schnare, Martha (Sam) Mazzola, Carson Schaar, and Gaelen Schnare.
She was appointed by Governor Kit Bond as the first woman to serve on the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission (1983-1989). She remained active in education affairs, serving on district wide committees and often offering her opinion to the Board of Education in St. Charles. She and her husband were volunteers at the St. Charles Community College Library for eight years. Prior to that, she served for two years on a 12-member steering committee which was responsible for the campaign to establish the community in 1986. In 2009, the Community College named the Library The Paul and Helen Schnare Library.
