Helene Margaret Trachte (nee Sims), of Wentzville, MO, passed away at home on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Melvin (Jack) Gerard Trachte; cherished daughter of the late John Clark and Annie Sims originally of Scotland. Devoted Mom of Laura (Lenny) Klaus, Lynn (Andy) Speares and the late Kurt Trachte. Loving grandma of Kyle (Jordyn), Lucas (Rachel), Jacob (Alicia Stahlschmidt), Alison (Noah Casali) Klaus, Meagan Speares and Neal Speares; treasured Grandma Great of Oscar, Liam, Jack, Josephine (Josie) and Leia Klaus. Preceded in death by brother John (the late Lorraine) Sims, brother in law Roland (the late Marion) Trachte and sister in law Ardis (the late Jack) Burk. Dearest Aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend.
Helene worked for Laclede Gas Company where she met and later married Jack in 1952. They would settle in Berkeley, MO for over 39 years before moving to St. Peters, MO where they lived for the next 30 years before moving to Wentzville, MO in 2021. Helene was a stay at home mom for years before graduating with her teaching degree in 1975. She then began her teaching career. She especially loved to share her joy of reading with her students. She worked a variety of jobs over the years eventually retiring after their move to St. Peters. Retirement allowed her to start her favorite job -- babysitting her grandchildren! She loved nothing more than being involved in the day to day activities of her grandchildren.
Helene found joy in various hobbies including reading, swimming, bingo, going to the boat and playing the quarter slots, watching all the sport/school activities of the grandkids and traveling. Jack and Helene traveled frequently after they retired including at least six trips to Europe with one to Scotland. She loved watching her favorite TV shows including Survivor, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and anything on the Game Show Network.
For the last 3 years, Helene had lived together with family and had loved getting to see family on a daily basis. She especially loved it when the great grandchildren came to visit. She loved being able to see their growth and development and would comment on every milestone she witnessed.
Helene was blessed to have had some special caregivers assist in her care and we wish to offer special thanks to Alex, Elizabeth and Karen.
Helene always had a special way to say bye at the end of a visit. On behalf of Helene and family -Toodaloo. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
Memorials may be made in Helene’s name to SSM Health Foundation and Visiting Angels of St. Charles.
