Henry Crawford Chappell of Lake St. Louis, MO died of natural causes on January 5, 2015 in O'Fallon, MO. He was 93.
Mr. Chappell was born on July 19, 1921, in Birmingham, AL to William Crawford Chappell, a postal carrier and Willie Mae (nee: Miles) Chappell, a homemaker. He graduated from Jones Valley High School in Birmingham, AL in 1939, where he was a member of the football team. At Jones Valley High School, he met Martha Elizabeth Poore, whom he would marry in November 1941. Shortly after their wedding, Mr. Chappell served in World War II in Europe.
After the war, Mr. Chappell earned his BA degree from Birmingham Southern College. He and his wife Martha had two sons and re-located to St. Louis, MO in the 1950s where they lived in the Crestwood neighborhood. In 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Chappell moved to Lake St. Louis, where they enjoyed boating, fishing and entertaining friends at their home on the lake.
Upon arriving in St. Louis, Mr. Chappell worked for several companies specializing in printed business forms and related systems. In the late 1970s, he purchased a small printing company, Krone Business Systems, in partnership with Eunice (Toodie) Brown, which specialized in printing and business forms productions. He and Ms. Brown ran the successful company for more than 40 years, until his retirement.
Mr. Chappell was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, and was active in the Lake St. Louis chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Mr. Chappell is survived by his son Wayne C. Chappell and his wife Linda, of Houston, TX; his son Jerry M. Chappell of St. Charles; two grandchildren, Kim Schmulowitz and Chad Chappell of Catonsville, MD, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Betty Morrow of Florence, AL.
A graveside service will be held at St. Charles Memorial Gardens, 3950 West Clay Street, St. Charles, MO 63301 on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 3:00 PM. Family and friends may gather in the Baue Funeral and Memorial Center at 2:30 prior to graveside service. A celebration of Henry's life will be celebrated at 4:00pm at Culpeppers, 3010 West Clay Street, St. Charles, MO 63301.
