He is survived by his wife Mary Catherine McCafferty Abeln; daughter Sister Jane M. Abeln, SMIC; sons John, Robert and Laurence Abeln; daughters-in-law MaryEllen Forgay, Sara (Walkenhorst) Abeln and Peg (Endres) Abeln; grandchildren Emily and Daniel Abeln, John and Mary Abeln, Samantha, Jana and Andrea Abeln; sisters Elsie Bonkrud and Margaret Sieving; brother Roger Abeln; stepchildren Carol and Dr. Steve Furjes, Lee and Betty McCafferty, Tim and Janet McCafferty, and Dr. Patricia McCafferty. He is preceded in death by brothers William and Eugene Abeln; wife Dorothy Abeln; and parents Herman Bernard Abeln, Sr. and Margaret Mary (McCarthy) Abeln. Bud was a man of strong religious values. He attended daily Mass all of his adult life. In 1995 he was invested as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Bud was also a longtime member of the Serra Club.
