Vũ, Thị Minh Hoan, of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the age of 56. Loving wife of Nguyen Pham; beloved daughter of Hao Van Vu and Sam Thi Vu; devoted mother of Hao Pham, Richard Pham and Ryan Pham; dear sister of Hieu Van Vu (Chau Hue On), Hieu Skelton (Brian Skelton), Helen Vu (David Beetson), Huyen Sutton (Andrew Sutton), Hien Thi Van Vu, Trang Waghorn (Thomas Waghorn), and Hiep Van Vu (Quyen Hoang Nguyen); cherished aunt of Henry Vu, Steven Vu, Patrick Vu, David Vu, Jonathan Vu, Kathryn Waghorn, and Joseph Waghorn.
Hoan was born on February 14, 1958 in Bien-Hoa, Vietnam. She was the first daughter and second child of Hao Van Vu (father) and Sam Thi Vu (mother). She grew up with two brothers (Hieu Van Vu and Hiep Van Vu) and five sisters (Hieu Skelton, Helen Vu, Huyen Sutton, Hien Thi Van Vu and Trang Waghorn). Her best childhood friend from the age of 11 was Thu-Nam. She earned her Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Ho Chi Minh City University of Science. Hoan met her love and future husband, Nguyen Pham, in August 1978. The couple married on January 8, 1983. They fled Vietnam by boat shortly thereafter in March 1983. After a treacherous seven days and seven nights at sea, they landed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During their six month stay, they gave birth to their first child, Minh Hao, on July 13, 1983. They immigrated shortly thereafter to Perth, Australia where they lived for six years. Hoan earned her Bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from Curtin University in 1988. She and her husband moved to Irving, Texas in the United States in November 1989 and then to Bossier City, Louisiana in 1990. There they gave birth to their second child, Richard, on January 27, 1992. They moved once again in April 1992 to Saint Charles, Missouri where they settled. On February 23, 1994, they gave birth to their third child, Ryan. Hoan worked as a software development analyst at First Data Corporation for 13 years. She was later employed by the Missouri state government. Hoan enjoyed travel, shopping and math puzzles, and she devoted her life to her family. Hoan was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister and will be dearly missed.
