He was a member of First Baptist Church of O'Fallon, MO. Hughes was born to Della and John Plumb on August 8, 1921, in Allenville, MO Hughes worked for Carondelet Foundry Co. in St. Louis, MO for 27 years. He was a foreman and was later placed in charge of the company's largest account, Owen's Illinois Glass Company. Hughes then worked for Columbus Foundries in GA for over 20 years. He was the superintendent over the cleaning room and shipping, as well as safety director. Hughes was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Nellie Ada Plumb. They were married for 65 years and 2 months. Hughes had two daughters, Barbara Joyce Plumb and Beverly Rene Plumb. He had one living sister, Betty Scott of Cape Girardeau, MO. He had one living brother, George Plumb of Poplar Bluff, MO. He was preceded in death by seven brothers.
