Hyla P. Clark

May 23, 1907 — January 19, 2003

Hyla Payton Clark, 95, originally from Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in the arms of his family at Delmar Gardens On The Green in Chesterfield on Sunday, January 19th. Known affectionately as ''Pa,'' he was known far and wide for his love of God, his incomparable sense of humor, his vast musical talents and his cheerful and loving demeanor. ''Pa'' Clark entertained all of the staff and residents of Delmar Gardens On The Green with his impressive harmonica playing, as well as his grand stories of days gone by- and what a lifetime of stories he had. Pa's ancestors came to this country in the 1700's. With the energy of a man twenty years his junior, Clark at 94 mowed not only his own lawn but also his neighbors' saying that he thought they worked too hard all day long! Retired from McDonnell-Douglas, ''Pa'' had engaged in varied careers in his 95 1/2 years. He had been a farmer in Kentucky, in the restaurant business in Chicago and most recently had been employed by the St. Charles Historical Society, and no...not as an exhibit! Hyla Clark, married for 68 years to Glenna Daugherty Clark (dec. 1990), had three children, all of whom possessed great musical talent: Betty Clark Peerman (dec. 1969), Gladys Clark Ellis (dec. 2001) and David Clark of St. Louis, who is a professional musician. The family of this man of small stature, but with the larger-than-life personality, wishes to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Delmar Gardens On The Green, who took SUCH great care of our ''Pa'' and loved him so much. Look out God, you've got a pistol coming! Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or church of donor's choice, in lieu of flowers, at any of the Baue Funeral Home locations.
