Ida Louise Finke (nee: Hoerl) died Sunday, October 9, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Howard Finke; cherished daughter of the late Alma and Elmer Hoerl; devoted mother of David Finke and his wife Lavada, Karen Finke, Marilyn Finke, and Janet Taylor and her husband Michael; loving grandmother of Kailee Smith and her husband Mike, Kyle Taylor, and Logan Taylor; and step-grandmother of Chris Lanigan and his wife Jennifer.
Louise was preceded in death by her brother, Everett Hoerl.
Louise was born into a German Lutheran farming community in Lone Elm, Missouri and these roots were the foundation of her life. She loved school, and one of her proudest accomplishments was completing high school, despite the hardships of the Depression and the passing of her mother. With the encouragement of her father she left farm life, completed business school in St. Louis, and became a legal secretary. She later moved to Jefferson City where during the war years she kept up morale, dancing with the soldiers at Fort Leonard Wood. A position with TWA in Kansas City followed, and in 1950 she married Howard Finke, newly graduated from the University of Kansas, and began a family of four children. She was active in her church, Girl Scouts, PEO, and the First Capitol Garden Club. In her later years she especially enjoyed helping her daughter Marilyn at her veterinary clinic. Louise was an expert seamstress and pie-baker, picking gallons of wild blackberries each summer. She was devoted to her husband of 65 years and her family, who will deeply miss her warmth and humor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church of St. Charles, MO or Zion Lutheran School of Bunceton, MO.
